There are so many careers that you can explore after taking this strand! You can have a future of becoming a baker, barista, makeup artist, barber, stylist, therapist, clerk, tailor, tour guide, or chambermaid. Various business set ups are also into this track like dress shop, beauty salon, coffee shop, bakery, snack bar, food cart, handicrafts among others.

This strand can also prepare you to college degrees on Hospitality and Tourism Management, Nutrition, Food Technology, Culinary Arts, Business Education, or Interior Designing.

SOME HOME ECONOMICS CAREER

clerk is a person who works in an office, bank, or law court and whose job is to look after the records or accounts. She was offered a job as an accounts clerk with a travel firm.

A Person who manages an itinerary on behalf of the tour operator ensuring the program is carried out as described in the tour operator’s literature and sold to the traveller/consumer and who gives local practical information.

baker is someone who bakes and sometimes sells bread and other products made using an oven or other concentrated heat source.

barista is a male or female “bartender”, who typically works behind a counter, serving hot drinks (such as espresso), cold alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and snacks.

makeup artist is an artist whose medium is the human body, applying makeup and prosthetic on others for theater, television, film , fashion, magazines and other similar productions including all aspects of the modeling industry. 

KUMBIRA 2017

KUMBIRA, the biggest culinary show and competition in Northern Mindanao finally opened Wednesday, November 22, at Limketkai Atrium, Limketkai Center, Lapasan Cagayan de Oro City.

Organized by the Cagayan de Oro Hotel and Restaurant Association (COHARA), this year’s KUMBIRA was anchored on the theme “Kumbira 2017: Eat Right” to promote the use of healthy ingredients and to inspire everybody to eat a balanced diet. 

This year’s participants, Kumbira’s 21st edition, included the VIP Hotel, Limketkai Luxe, Apple Tree resort and hotel, MIA’s Cakery, MSU-Maigo School of Arts and Trades, NikkiLicious Cupcakery, Pane E Dolci, FoodBuds, Manjo’s Cafe, Fumivorein’s Food Haven, Cafe Pillar and Cagayan-An Cafe Cartel.

Ten schools from places such as CARAGA, Iligan, and various Misamis Oriental towns, also took part in the event.

Participating schools included the University of Science and Technology of the Philippines (USTP), Saint Michaels College Caraga, Father Saturnino Urios University, Liceo de Cagayan University, Lourdes College, Iligan Medical Center College, TESDA-KNAS, MSU-Maigo, MSU-Naawan and CSU-Cabadbaran Campus. 

Aside from the professionals, well-known establishments and student categories, there were also 10 schools which participated in the Junior and Kiddie Category- Liceo de Cagayan University High School, Liceo de Cagayan University Grade School, Lourdes College Integrated Bed, Kinoguitan Central School, City Central School, Saint Michaels College of CARAGA, Bugo National High School, Saint Mary’s Academy of Carmen, Molugan National High School and MSU-Maigo.

Various culinary experts, chefs and restaurant owners acted as judges in this year’s competition. The judges included Chef Myrna Segismundo, Chef Norbert Gandler, Chef Eduardo Tuazon,Chef See Cheong Yan,Chef Robby Gocao, Chef Jean Pierre Migne,Chef Raul Ramos,Chef Cathy Dano,Chef Mich Uapal,Chef Awi Chaves,Chef Ramon Cardenas,Chef Jocelyn Chua and food writer Micky Makabenta.

Kumbira is a Cebuano term for “feast.”

Kumbira is a food festival that showcases the talents of chefs from different restaurants around the city of Cagayan de Oro.

Every multi-departmental physical business needs to have a front office or reception to receive the visitors. Front Office Department is the face and as well as the voice of a business. Regardless of the star rating of the hotel or the hotel type, the hotel has a front office as its most visible department. For a business such as hospitality, the front office department comes with an aspect of elevating customer experience with the business.

Bartending is the art of providing excellent service to each guest that enters the bar. A good bartender is one who always is ready to greet a guest, accommodate to their needs and serve them with utmost respect and professionalism.

Teachers of Intermediate Home Economics were required to be graduates of the Philippine Normal School or the equivalent, which required 3 years of study beyond secondary level.

ABM can also lead you to careers on management and accounting which could be sales manager, human resources, marketing director, project officer, bookkeeper, accounting clerk, internal auditor, and a lot more.

This track also invests primarily on skills that can gain you requisite COCs (Certificates of Competency) and NCs (National Certifications) which would be essential when looking for better career opportunities in agriculture, electronics, and trade. HOME ECONOMICS

ICT

If you are computer-savvy or a technological freak, step right into the Information Communication Technology strand. Under this strand, you will be encouraged to utilize information and communication technological tools to contextualize, collaborate, and create experiences for learning in this professional strand.

AGRI-FISHERY

The Agri-Fishery strand was designed for hands-on learning and application of skills that are related to agriculture and aquaculture. You will be taking various subjects that are connected to other jobs such as food processing, rubber production, animal production, or landscape installation.

INDUSTRIAL ARTS

Technical Livelihood Education subjects under this track are following the TESDA curriculum so if you are thinking of taking any of technical-vocational courses, this is the strand you should take. Industrial Arts will provide you the skills and knowledge on carpentry, automotive servicing, driving, electronics repair, electrical installation, welding, plumbing, and tile setting.
